A Day of Dignity, Engagement, and Support
At the heart of our Memory Care and Support service is the St. Mary’s Aged Home, a pillar of compassionate elder care in Malaysia since 1985, extends its mission beyond residential care through its vital Adult & Elderly Day Care Service. This community focused program is designed to support both seniors and their families, providing a safe, stimulating, and nurturing daytime environment that enhances quality of life, promotes independence, and prevents social isolation. It embodies the home’s founding ethos, which is to serve as an extension of family, offering professional care and heartfelt companionship that each person’s journey with memory loss is unique. Our approach combines compassion, research-based techniques, and personalized care.
Program Philosophy & Objectives
The core philosophy of the day care service is engagement over custody. It aims to:
- Provide supervised care and meaningful activities for seniors who otherwise may be home alone.
- Offer respite and support for family caregivers, allowing them to work, manage responsibilities, or recharge.
- Delay or prevent institutionalization by supporting seniors to remain in their own homes and communities for longer.
- Maintain and improve the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial well-being of every participant.
A Structured & Enriching Daily Schedule
A typical day at the center is carefully structured to provide routine while offering variety and choice:
Morning Welcome & Health Check (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM):
Residents are greeted with warmth and served breakfast. A gentle morning health monitoring session checks vital signs, administers prescribed medications, and notes any specific needs for the day.
Holistic Wellness Activities (9:00 AM – 12NOON):
Physical Well-being: Light group exercises, or physiotherapy-guided movements to maintain mobility, strength, and balance.
Cognitive Stimulation: Memory exercises, group discussions on current events to keep minds active. During festive seasons, there would be arts and crafts, simple painting, musical sessions (sing-alongs, percussion), and festive decoration making to encourage self-expression and joy.
Nutritious Lunch & Social Interaction (12NOON – 1 PM):
A balanced lunch is served in a communal setting. This is a key social event, fostering friendship and conversation, with staff assisting those who need help with feeding.
Afternoon Leisure & Personal Care (1PM – 3:30 PM):
Relaxation time with options like reading, listening to music, or taking a nap.
Provision of personal care services, such as assisted bathing or grooming like haircut or clipping of nails.
Tea Time & Departure (3:30 PM – 4:30 PM):
Tea time is served. Staff provide a brief update to family members during pickup, ensuring continuity of care.
